The invention of the oxyacetylene torch around 1895 by Edmond Fouché and Charles Picard allowed jewelry to reacher higher temperatures and gave jewelers the ability to cast and work with platinum in greater quantities and without gold. This led to the amazing platinum work you find in the Edwardian era.
