A sterling silver pot with gilt washed interior. A very clean, simple and refined pot with removable lid, in an unusual size. Pieces like this provide an elegant way to clean up a bathroom, kitchen, desk, bar or living room. Keeping clutter in one tidy place. It can also be used to keep cigars in, as it is tall enough to keep a large number of sized cigars in. As society moves away from packaging, there will be much cause for finding receptacles to keep every day essentials in, and this provides that.
This jar, or pot, is of an unusual size, and its clean design is uncommon for this period. As designed moved out of the elaborate Victorian age, where adornment and embellishment was seen throughout, moving into the Edwardian period, design began to embrace a cleaner more paired down appearance. This was an early example of that desire where "less is more". This makes this piece easy to place in even the most modern environments today.
It is superb quality with a thick gauge of silver, well made construction and a warm gilt washed interior. The piece was made in London, England in 1904 by renowned English silversmith William Comyns. There are matching hallmarks to both the lid and the body. It is presented in superb condition throughout.
